Use of Pheromone Products at The Pet Clinic

The Pet Clinic has been recognized by Ceva Animal Health as an Ideal Clinic for the use of its behavior pheromone products, Feliway and Adaptil. Why We Use Pheromones

Ceva’s recognition reflects our continued efforts to provide the best care possible by treating behavior as a major part of veterinary medicine. By creating an enriched and calm environment, we make hospital visits more rewarding and less frightening for pets. Pheromones work hand in hand with our low stress handling techniques and environmental enrichment.

What Are Feliway and Adaptil?

Feliway for Cats

Feliway is adapted from the feline facial pheromone, the same one your cat leaves when rubbing their cheek on furniture and doorways. It can help with multi-cat households, territorial issues, aggression, moving, stress and anxiety, urinary cystitis, scratching and much more.

Adaptil for Dogs

Adaptil is adapted from the canine appeasing pheromone that mother dogs release to comfort and reassure their puppies. It can help with storms and fireworks, separation anxiety, multi-dog households, car rides, moving and other stressful situations.

How We Use Pheromones in Our Hospital

  • All cages, towels, cage pads, cat perches and beds are sprayed with the appropriate pheromone
  • E-collars, muzzles and exam tables are sprayed
  • Exam rooms and waiting rooms have diffusers for continuous exposure
  • Cats receive a warmed, Feliway-sprayed towel to lie on
  • Our team members spray their jackets and hands

Using Pheromones at Home

Feliway is available as a spray and diffuser, and Adaptil comes as a spray, diffuser and collar. These products can help pets cope with anxiety and fear, travel to wellness exams and recovery after surgery. For more complex problems, we recommend combining pheromones with a behavior consultation. You can purchase these products from our in-house pharmacy, and our team is happy to show you how to use them. Learn more about our patient care approach or our full list of veterinary services.
